View Full Version : My 10 seconds
Neocron steals enough of my life, and now i'll never get those ten seconds back.
alt + f4 = esc
esc = bad
ctrl + z = good
understand?

thats too much fucking work
seriously this should be at the top of the list of things to do. if theres ONE thing this game has to have, its a way to get the hell out of it

I agree that alt_f4 is bad for the game.... Ill agree with this addition -
What i wont agree with is the following 2 things -
Perma syn = ctrl+alt+delete...
Black sync = Task manager as well
But sometimes Neocron wont let you load taskmanager... and the only thing it will let you do is hit that fucking restart button -
pantho..U can play in window mode..Everytime it sycnh bug u..Go into process and removev lient

I dont like window mode -Dont argue with that....
Window mode is a feature not a must do -

I've only ever been unable to get to taskmanager once.
What happens more often is that it simply hides behind the black screen.
Press C, then press Delete. Repeat until it closes client.exe (Depends how many processes you have starting with C, unfortunatly I tend to end up closing all of my soundcard apps first :()
Anyone else get a problem where when they click Exit > Yes when closing NC, that the program just gets stuck, like it freezes and nothing at all will overlap the exit screen?
This makes NC impossible to close, Alt F4 doesn't work, Ctrl Alt Delete doesn't work, Windows key doesn't work, Windows D doesn't work, Alt tab doesn't work, pushing the power button on my keyboard doesn't bring up a shutdown prompt.. Nothing.
Also, about windowed mode. Sometimes I used it when I'm on MSN but I just can not figure out how to maximise it so it takes up everything but the windows bar, therefore making the window as big as possible, while still retaining windowed mode and not being able to drag the window. No keyboard shortcuts seem to work, if I try to double click the bar at the top of NC, it puts me right back in the game with the cursor center screen without maximising it. I've done it once or twice before, but I don't remember how..
Those who are whinging "ZOMG I always alt-f4 out of game, I haets quitting properly" are just being a bit silly really. Most applications put you through their normal quit process when you hit alt-F4. Neocron was an oddity in that it didn't have a hnadler but just terminated the process - however its worth noting that doing so DOES fuck up NC installs. You'd probably fatal less if you weren't so fond of doing it.
Howerever that said, we do need a way to just dump the game in infini-synch. Normally, (at leazt 95% of the time in my expereince) you can just escape out of synch, endless and black or otherwise and be straight back at login. Sometimes it gets more tied up - but then brining task manager up isn't a big deal - thats what you have to do for most non-responsive programs anyhow.
There is a good chance I say more than 5% that you might get caught in one of those endless syncs, or PC freeze. Now there is also a good chance due to game design that this might happen in the worst possible moment. Usually while fighting in an OP fight, or zone, or maybe trying to kill one hi end monster. It is exactly these moments that you need fast exit and fast resuming.
Make the alt+f4 thing work as intended, but at the same time make the game so that it doesnt crash 2 times out of 10 in the worst possible location
Well i just wrote a keyboard makro to terminate NC instantly, works fine and i dont have to care about the alt+F4 issue

Normally an escape will drop you instally out of synch though and straight back to login.
Perhaps the real question should be - why do we have to wait 10 seconds on logout? What purpouse does that serve other than to waste our time?

Yeah that happens to me. But I hear a windows noise which suggests a FRE so I just press enter and it lets the program close then. When I get a FRE ingame and it doesn't close it works then too.

I always assumed that was to stop people taking shots at others and being able to log out with no consequences.

Your body remains for another 30 seconds anyhow, so I don't see how making us WATCH for 10 secs is useful...

well seeing as though the 10 seconds has a direct relation to your fps... meaning if you are someone with 1000 fps, you probably only have to wait about 1 or 2 seconds. (and yes 1000 fps is easily obtainable by some) and this right there makes the 10 seconds faulty.
Perhaps the 10 seconds of watching could be removed, and added onto the 30 seconds of nonvisible disappearing. This would effectively make everyone have the same disappearing time for the bodies, and would allow an alt f4 exit of the game to not be beneficial in gameplay, but beneficial to the consumer.
Also, the only current benefit of the 10 seconds is that if you accidentally hit esc while playing. but in this case, we have resume.
